The Nova Cannon is a ranged weapon arm for the Ridepod in Dark Chronicle. It is not available for purchase, but like all Ridepod parts, the Nova Cannon and its later variants can be invented. The Nova Cannon is available late through the game, and is the strongest ranged Ridepod weapon, with only the Laser Arm being on par. Maximilian received the first Nova Cannon for free from Osmond upon achieving a 100% completion rate in Veniccio at the end of Chapter 4.
The Nova Cannon collects energy from the sun, which it fires as beams from the nozzles (which open widely directly before firing), alternating between each arm. Although powerful, it has among the lowest rates of fire, making it difficult to deal with larger groups of strong enemies. It adds some minor additional damage to those susceptible to Chill or Lightning. The Nova Cannon IV is the second-most powerful weapon in the game, directly after the Samurai Arm IV, with 1600 Attack versus its 1800, dwarfing even the Laser Arm IV at 800. However, it requires 165 Core capacity, which forces the player to choose either a lower quality leg part, body part, or Energy Pack.
The First Nova Cannon becomes available for inventing in Chapter 5, but is best entirely ignored, as you can receive one for free from Osmond. Versions II, III and IV are available in chapters 6, 7 and 8, respectively. The Nova Cannon III and IV both require several Holy Stones, but notably version IV requires a single extremely rare Sun Stone, which are in limited supply. Inventing it also requires the Flotsam Revived! scoop.
