Power up items are unique consumable items in Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 which permanently raise a playable character's hit points, defense, or thirst meter, however the latter only applies to the original game, as Dark Cloud 2 does not include a thirst meter. There are a fixed number of Power up items in both games and they are not available in stores or found in dungeons. It should be noted that it is possible to accidentally miss some of these items.
The term "Power up item" is not within either game, and is used only to describe the unique items which have a permanent stat boosting effect.

Dark Cloud
In Dark Cloud, the player obtains Power up items by Finding them inside of small red Miracle chests found in and around town, or receiving them as gifts from various inhabitants. Factors such as Georama requirement completion and progress through a dungeons floors govern when they will become available to obtain.
There are not enough Fruit of Edens or Gourds to max out all of characters' stats. 3 Fruit of Edens and 2 Gourds are missing to fully complete every character. Each defense item can randomly raise a characters defense by 5, 6, or 7. In order to achieve the highest defense, it is advised to save the game file before consuming one, and restarting until the desired number is reached.
